New on DVD: 'Jumping the Broom,' 'Mars Needs Moms,' 'Paul'

This week's DVD selections include one movie about weddings and two films about aliens.</p><p> "Jumping the Broom," Grade B-plus: Two families battle over wedding traditions. Angela Bassett stars.</p><p> If you only look at the cast, it might appear this is a comedy aimed at an African-American audience. But this sweet and funny story about how it's possible for two people to fall in love without falling into bed has universal themes. It shows how love conquers all.</p><p> Elizabeth Hunter's script is a smooth blend of tough emotional moments with light-hearted comedy. It avoids almost every wedding movie cliche. Loretta Devine's role comes the closest to being a film stereotype, but she never goes over the parody edge.</p><p> The emotional elements may make "Jumping the Broom" sound like a downer, but it's presented in such a loving way it's one of the better romantic comedies to come along in years.</p><p> "Mars Needs Moms," Grade C-plus: Visitors from the red planet are kidnapping mothers to take care of Martian children in this animated adventure.</p><p> Milo (performed by Seth Green and voiced by Seth Robert Dusky) is a 10-year-old who boldly announces he'd be better off without his mother. That night, a spaceship arrives to transport Mom (Joan Cusack) to Mars. She's part of an alien abduction program that snatches moms and drains them of their mom-ness. That maternal essence is installed in robot nannies who tend to Martin children because the female Martians are too busy running the planet.</p><p> "Mars Needs Moms," from the motion-captured animation to the 3-D effects, is out of this world. Too bad the story fails to get off the ground.</p><p> "Paul," Grade C-plus: Two Earthlings (Simon Pegg and Nick Frost) help an alien who has escaped from a government facility.</p><p> "Paul" starts with the absurd and has no place to go except down. So instead of smart humor, the film keeps falling back on such immature jokes as having a deeply Christian woman (Kristen Wiig) find a new passion for profanity. The joke works the first five or six times, but by the 58th variation, any potential humor has been beaten into the ground.</p><p> The film is most funny when it references classic sci-fi - from the tune being played by a band at a biker bar to Paul's choice of candy treats. Bend over EA's coming. Goons take 2/3 | Moose On Ice

Game 1 went well no issues.  This game started out slow.  Both teams not able to create much of any offence, both tenders held in down in the first.  Early in the second the Uncles take a early 2 0 lead as come out strong, looks like they may have found the Goons weakness.  Goons finally turn it up and  former Champ, yet again put the Goons on the board making it 2 1 going into the third.  Goons came out strong in the third finally getting some  TOA and were finally able to tie the game with a sick cross crease pass from Marvin the martian to Taz to make it 2-2. This game goes to over time….. Early in the over time period PePe Le Pew would poke one in for the big ot game winner.

Now here is where all the BULL SHIT starts..

After taking stats for game one I got disconnected form EA servers, I tried several times to connect with no fucking luck.  First time this shit has ever happen to me and its on a fucking moose night. ( I WAS LIVID LET ME TELL YA) I kept trying for about 1o minutes and still no luck.  after holding the other team up already for 10 minutes i sent my team on there way without me. I didn’t  bother to ask for a waiver because i didn’t want to make the other team wait any longer.

Game 2 im unsure what went on as i was not in it.

I tried for the full half hour to reconnect to EA no such luck. over and over again no luck. As the Goons were about to send game 3 invite I finally connected and was able to play game 3.

Game 3 literally took us 5 attempts to  get this game going, both teams kept freezing as they would enter the dressing room. Finally on the fifth attempt it worked and game 3 got on the way.

Both teams came out strong trying to secure the series win. This game was back and forth, with both goalies playing solid. any team could have came out on top here.  The Goons down 2 0 until late in the second they finally make it on the board making it 2 1 going into the third. Once again the Goons were to much to handle in the OT period and got another early ot winner scored by Marvin the Martian( Lil Spoiler)

A huge props to buddhy9.  You got some balls bro that’s what i call a team player….. Buddy moved out with his girlfriend last week and wont have Internet for a bit.  so until he has Internet he will go back to his parents to play the series hes scheduled to play in. last night he promised his girl he would be home by 11. well buddy got called up to play mhl games and said he could only play 2. after playing the 2 he came to my party said im out good luck the rest of the night. i then bugged buddy to stay or i would be using a computer for game 3 again.  Buddy to scared to call the woman he texted her instead her reply ” im already sick of your xbox and we dont even have the Internet yet, you have to chose buddy sex or xbox”….. clearly he chose xbox and this is where buddy slept last night.
