Looking for Love: The Business of Online Dating (#thenewyorker)
Event called “Looking For Love: The Business of Online Dating” to discuss love in the age of the internet. He said, “Let’s consider some of the common criticisms or misperceptions of online dating, and one of them is that it’s for losers and desperados.”Sam Yagan , co-founder and CEO of OKCupid dating site commented on this critique, “There are two trends we see repeat themselves that explain this. The first is that when I that started online dating in the ‘90s, all the people that were online dating were all nerds. So by definition, everyone who did online dating in the ‘90s was a nerd. That is where our industry was born. It took us a while to get out of our own beginning and go mainstream. But I think the broader issue is a technology story – whenever tech begins to insert itself into an interaction that used to be human-to-human, there is at first a resistance. The issue is not a choice that you are an online dater or an offline dater, just like it’s not a choice that you are an online shopper or an offline shopper – you do both.”
The largest dating site, Match.com , did a massive study five years ago that showed that one-in-five relationships started online and resulted with one-in-six marriages. “There used to be this personal stigma where ‘I have lots of friends that are dating online, but this is just not for me’,” said Mandy Ginsberg , Match’s president. “But now I’ve seen the erosion of the personal stigma, which is a profound change in the last decade and a half. Things are changing so much now that it’s not just that my friend dates, but I online date too. It’s become socially acceptable.”
In order to explain the second criticism that Paumgarten found through his research, he took on the guise of a women who had been unsuccessful online asking: “I keep getting hooked up with these shlubs, and if I meet one more loser or psycho, I’m going to become a nun. What’s that about?”
Julia Kamin , who has dated for 11 years and created MakeEachotherLaugh.com , said that online dating is for the desperate, “Because it does take a lot of work, persistence and time and shlubs before you find the one. I have to say that I’m not in a relationship and I’m not married so I’m a testament to the failure of online dating. You’ve got to expect for every 10 dates, five will be pleasant but there’s no interest; two or three will be uncomfortable and you wish you could just leave; one will be terrifying, and maybe one is go – something might happen there. I do think it takes a sense of desperation, but there if there were alternatives, people wouldn’t be doing it. For a lot of people, it’s still one of the best ways to meet other people.

see that one has more,” she said. “But it's harder to tell the difference between 50 oranges versus 60 oranges, even though the absolute difference is greater.” The frogs are not alone at night; also lurking nearby are bats that prey on the frogs.

I got a message from Debbie Derrick of Vancouver, who has heard her first one. I left the window open Sunday night to see if I could hear any in the field by my house, with no luck. No crickets, no frogs, just the distant roar of the ocean.
Saturday night the Frog's Signs Junior Fan Club will host a Back to School Bash. There will be drawings for backpacks loaded with school supplies. Other activities include a fitness challenge with prizes, displays from local organizations and much more

Exodus 8:9-10, “Moses said to Pharaoh, `I leave to you the honor of setting the time for me to pray for you and your officials and your people that you and your houses may be rid of the frogs, except for those that remain in the Nile.’ `Tomorrow,’ Pharaoh said.”
Picture it! There were frogs everywhere. They were in the bed, in the kitchen, in the parlor, in the oven, even mixed the bread dough. God had said to Pharaoh, through Moses, “If you refuse to let the children of Israel go, I will smite all your borders with frogs.” Pharaoh refused to let God’s people go, and now there were frogs everywhere. an Egyptian woman opens the oven and screams, as frogs jump out of the oven. Some fellow starts to pulls his sheets down on the bed, and frogs come out from the covers. Another fellow starts to put his cloths on, and there are frogs all through his clothing. Some Egyptian boys are kicking a can along their way to school and there are frogs everywhere!
There are big frogs, small frogs, frogs in the house, frogs all over the yard. There are big, smelly, mountains of millions of frogs through-out the land of Egypt.
Pharaoh could sand it no longer and so he calls Moses and Moses says to Pharaoh, “I will ask God to take the frogs out of the land, you just tell me when shall God remove the frogs?” And, Pharaoh tells Moses, “Tomorrow!”
For the life of me, I cannot figure it out! There were frogs everywhere, in the bed, in the food, in all the houses, in the Egyptians clothing. God was ready to remove them all and Pharaoh says, “Wait until tomorrow, give me one more night with the frogs!”
This pictures the an unbeliever who is rebellious, proud and procrastinating. God warns them, and tells them that if they will obey His Word, they will be spared from coming judgment. What do they do? They experience sorrows, heartaches and fears as a result of their sinning, but God loves them and wants to remove judgment from them. And, just like Pharaoh, they says, ”Okey, God, but wait until tomorrow . . . wait until some other time!”
We are famous for that word “tomorrow” and what we are going to do then. Preach to Christians about full surrender and they will say, “I know I should surrender fully to God, it is the only honest thing to do. I plan to do it – tomorrow!”
“Give me one more night with the frogs!
