Memorial to honor 43rd Division veterans in Middletown (video)
Catherine Avalone | The Middletown Press 8.5.11 Veterans and their families attended a special groundbreaking ceremony Friday afternoon to dedicate a memorial monument to CT Veterans of the 43rd Infantry Division of World War II and the Korean War era at the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetary at 317 Bow Lane in Middletown. The monument will be built at the cemetery honoring the soldiers who fought hand to hand combat aginst the Japanese at Muda, Aitape and Luzon in World War II. The front of the monument will be dedicated to Connecticut in honor of our fallen comrades, the right side to Rhode Island, World War II Pacific Theater from 1941-1946, the left to Maine Korean War 1950-1953 Nato Forces in Germany and the back to Vermont's Winged Victory Division. On Friday veterans from the division, along with state and local dignitaries, gathered at the State Veterans Cemetery on Bow Lane to break ground on a memorial that will honor all the veterans of the 43rd Division, which included National Guard units from Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island and Vermont.South Cemetery Somers Connecticut - News
