When you buy your new car, you may have gotten a little caught up in the excitement of your new purchase, and maybe you did not pay all that much attention to the auto warranty services that were presented to you. But now you’ve had your car for a few weeks, and you have started to wonder – if something goes wrong with my fabulous new car, will it be covered under my warranty? What exactly did I get? And should I’ve turned down that extended warranty so quickly?

The first thing you will want to do is sit down, and read through your current warranty information. Yes, it is not exactly an exciting read, but it needs to be done. There is information in this document that you’ll need to know. Things like the length of your manufacturer’s warranty, the number of miles you can drive before it expires, and what exactly is covered. Is it bumper-to-bumper? Drive train only? And what maintenance and other services need to be performed in order to stay qualified for repair work? These are pieces of information that will be vital to you, if you plan to own your car for a long time. If you’re unsure of any of these points, or you have more questions, do not be afraid to call the dealership, and ask them to go over the warranty with you.

Be sure to read through this short article rather carefully, the issue and the fixes have a lot of different versions. As for that extended warranty that the dealership offered, do not worry too much about it… Yet. You can always pick up an extended warranty at a later time and date from a third party company. For now, you are covered by the policy that came with your new car, and adding an extended warranty will not make you any safer. It would be like wearing 2 gloves. Then again, as you get closer to the expiration date of your manufacturer’s warranty, you’ll want to start to keep an eye out for some reputable extended warranty providers, and start comparing prices and coverage. Remember that not every company will offer the same experience, and just because something was replaced for free by your old warranty does not mean that a new, extended warranty will cover it as well.

Auto warranty company claims they can keep my money, is this legit? I bought an extended warranty, sold my car and told them to cancel my contract, I ended up making a years worth of warranty payments, and when my wallet got stolen I changed my credit cards. Then they tried to pull funds from my old card which they couldn't, and canceled my contract for not being able to collect. We're talking about a years worth of payments for nothing. I can provide them an odometer reading from when the car was traded, but they claim according to the contract they can keep my money since they couldn't collect. Other details are: I got the warranty with 28k miles on my car. I had full bumper to bumper on my car until 36k miles. I sold/traded the car at 32k miles.
