The Oregonian, Digimarc launch new feature

&Nbsp;Starting in The Sunday Oregonian, The Oregonian's Mobile Reader represents a gateway to extra news content on your smartphone. Using watermarking technology created by Digimarc, a Beaverton high-tech company, selected photos link your iPhone or Android devices to additional content from The Oregonian's journalists: photo galleries, videos and additional reporting.
 
Using your iPhone 4 or 3GS or one of many Android devices, visit your mobile app store and download The Oregonian's Mobile Reader. It's free and will appear on your smartphone with The Oregonian's recognizable script "O" and the words "O reader."

Find a blue smartphone logo in The Oregonian newspaper. The logo offers a visual cue that a nearby photo includes an imperceptible watermark.

With the application running and your newspaper in a well-lit area, aim your smartphone's camera at the photo nearest the logo. Hold your phone parallel to the printed page, starting about 8 inches away. If it doesn't detect the signal right away, slowly move the phone toward the photo until you hear a sound or feel a vibration indicating the digital signal was read.

The Oregonian's Mobile Reader will launch your phone's browser, connecting you to content that can't be reproduced on traditional newspaper pages.
