Never at a loss for words or making a statement, he joined forces with Hulk Hogan in WCW and helped usher in the new era with Hulk's move to the rival company. If there was ever a man who took a gimmick and got the most out of it, it was the Honky Tonk
15 years after the beginning of the Attitude Era, the WWE had come up with a new way to market their product and their WWE champion. Fans didn't know what was real or “fake”. Each episode of WWE Raw was absolutely must see television.

This past weekend continued yet another new era in wrestling as Triple H continued to assume the controls as RAW's on-air authority. Vince McMahon has once again written himself off of television, in yet another intriguing summer storyline,

I firmly believe that this new era we are being ushered into is a combination of viral marketing and worked-shoot style wrestling angles. It's sure to be an interesting time. Of course, I could be COMPLETELY WRONG and this will go nowhere in a matter
The John Report Wrestling Blog » On The Aire: A New Era Has Begun ...
Unless you’ve been dead for the past two months, you know something special has been happening in the world of the WWE. On June 13, at a Stone Cold-hosted Raw, C.M. Punk busted into Austin’s office and had a brief, yet enthralling conversation with the man. One sentence stuck out from that conversation, which I had actually forgotten about until it was brought up by fellow IWC comrades (Hi, TRD…how ya doin?).
“I actually came in here to thank you. See, you’ve done one good thing tonight. I’m shocked you pulled that off, not being sober and all. But you gave me a match with John Cena and I want to thank you because–I know most of your greatest moments are behind you. But you just set in motion something that is going to change the landscape of the WWE forever. And that’s the bottom line because CM Punk said so.”
Two months later, C.M. Punk is the biggest thing in wrestling not named John Cena. Big enough that, accompanied by a Broski Zack Ryder shirt, I purchased Punk’s new shirt to be my first two wrestling shirts…EVER. We are in the midst of perhaps a resurgence of professional wrestling. At the very least, we are seeing a revitalization that we haven’t seen in over a decade.
But the whole C.M. Punk revolution has been analyzed and reanalyzed. Granted it has been completely warranted; but I wanted to focus on a specific part of this on-going Punk ride. Last week on July 27 , Punk did a podcast interview with Bill Simmons, a writer for ESPN and owner of his own sub-site called “Grantland”. Simmons, a big wrestling fan, wanted to talk to Punk following the amazing Money in the Bank pay-per-view, Punk’s return, and about his views on the business. It’s a great, candid 45-minute listen if you get the chance. The link can be found here .
But just like Punk’s talk with Austin almost two months ago, I feel one comment in the interview resonated with me:
“Everyone says ‘oh it’s a new Attitude Era’ or ‘you’re the second coming of Steve Austin,’ and it is completely false. I am C.M. Punk, and if I could call it the new era anything…I’d call it the Reality Era.”
The Reality Era? Now that’s something you don’t hear every day. I think Punk is definitely onto something with the idea. No, it doesn’t mean we are going to see more reality show people like The Miz making their way into wrestling (although half of the Jersey Shore cast has been in a ring now, and a guy from Big Brother is signed to TNA/Impact Wrestling…). What this means is we will once again get back to where the lines that were drawn between what is real, and what is considered “fake” are blurred.
Punk himself is claiming that he bringing about a new era in Wrestling. The WWE Reality Era. I think that's AWESOME!
