Air Sarko One gets luxury kitchen fitout

But that has not stopped the French leader from ensuring that he, his wife and their guests enjoy the finest foods on official trips.

According to a report by auditors, two electric ovens have been fitted into his palatial new presidential airliner, nicknamed Air Sarko One, to provide freshly cooked food at a cost of several hundred thousand euros.

The disclosure is an embarrassment to Mr Sarkozy and came on the day that he wrote to MPs urging them to approve cost-cutting measures to reduce France's public deficit.

Whereas other airliners can only reheat dishes, the ovens in the French presidential Airbus A330, purchased for €75,234 ($A100,000), can cook a gratin dauphinois from scratch.

But that meant carrying out feasibility studies to ensure that they would not set fire to the aircraft.

The combined cost of the research and a system of electric shutters in Mr Sarkozy's cabin came to €694,312, according to the report. The shutters cost a further €310,245 to install, the report said.

Mr Sarkozy spent €1,161,500 sealing a door which led to his personal on-board office and installing storage space in it, the auditors added.

The President and his wife have a DVD player, a Nespresso machine, a shower and double bed on the aircraft, which came into service last autumn. The cost of these items was not given in the report.

The A330 also has a missile defence system, a medical room and a conference room equipped with 12 chairs, 11 of which lack arm rests (it is not difficult to guess which one Mr Sarkozy uses). At the back are 60 seats for officials and journalists.

The aircraft, which is 13 years old, was bought from Air Caraibes, a Caribbean carrier, for €55 million. By the time that it had been refitted the cost came to €259.5 million.

However, Mr Sarkozy has claimed that this is "excellent" value for money. He sold France's two previous presidential Airbuses for €62 million because he said that they could "barely" make it across the Atlantic.

The auditors welcomed a slight reduction in the overall outgoings of the French presidency, from €122.85 million in 2009 to €112.7 million last year.

This was partly because Mr Sarkozy abandoned the tradition of presidential hunting parties and the annual Bastille Day garden party at the Elysee Palace.

I have bought several DVD racks that looked identical to this one in the past so when I saw it listed in Amizon.com I had no qualms about buying it. (sigh) I should have known better. This item was very easy to assemble, and is perfectly adequite for CDs or Blu-Ray DVDs , but regular DVD cases only barely fit with about 1/8th to 1/16th of an inch left over. If those regular cases happen to be in a boxed set(i.e. TV seasons or special collection) they don’t fit. The boxed sets are (maybe) 1/8th of an inch taller than a regular DVD case. After comparing this item side by side with my older CD/DVD racks I found this item to be sturdier and more stable than my older racks. The reason it is more stable, (comparatively, I’ve owned my other racks for ten years and never had a problem) is because it is about 10 inches shorter overall, with 2 less inches of clearance per shelf.

I bought one of these and was a bit worried because most of the reviews mention that the rack doesn’t fit all DVDs. Upon receiving the rack it was very easy to assemble, and to my surprise nearly all of my DVDs fit on the shelves. The only DVDs that wouldn’t fit were larger TV series DVDs (like Seinfeld). However, these DVDs easily fit on the top shelf. I was so satisfied with this product that I immediately ordered another. Upon receiving the next DVD rack, one of the parts was missing. I emailed the company, and they immediately sent me the part. I have now had both racks for a few months and am very happy with them.

The unit was shipped and arrived with NO damage. (Scratches, dings etc,) As others have stated it does have a lot of pieces that need to be put together however it really is fairly easy. Set aside 1 hour for assembly and make sure you keep the two packages of rods separate. They have a VERY SLIGHT difference in height and are hard to separate once out of the package. It is a good cheap alternative to store your entertainment accessories. The unit does spin. The bottom has a cheap plastic ring with ball bearings. I have the unit on a very low carpet and it spins with no problem and extra clearance. Overall the quality is cheap with minor imperfections. (One rod did not screw in all the way. However unless I am standing right on top of it the imperfections are not noticeable and DO NOT effect the structural integrity of the unit.

When assembled the product looks exactly as the picture suggests. Each shelf fits approximately eighteen (18) DVDs.
